About Us

    Love and Luck Love and Smiles is a charity inspired by the extraordinary lives of Rose and Larry Spaeth of Sheboygan/Howards Grove, Wisconsin, and the enduring spirit of their 12 children. Rooted in faith, family, and community, our mission is to spread love, good fortune, and joyful smiles to those in need, especially children and families facing hardship through support, giving, and togetherness.

The Heart of Our Story

    Hilarion “Larry” G. Spaeth (1931–2023) and Rosemary “Rose” Spaeth built a life defined by generosity and unity. Married for over 70 years after meeting in school in Stratford, Wisconsin, they raised a large, close-knit family while embodying quiet, consistent kindness. Larry, a Korean War veteran and longtime cheese maker, and Rose created a home filled with warmth and purpose. Their legacy lives on through their children—Allen, Tom, Fred, Dale, Karen, Dave, Steve, Bob, Mary, Patty, Ken, and Greg—and the dozens of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who continue the family tradition of caring for others.

    The Spaeth family’s charitable nature shone brightly through decades of community involvement. For 28 years, Rose and Larry co-managed the Spaeth Family Softball Team, regularly entering one or more teams (sometimes three) in Sheboygan’s Toys for Tots Softball Tournament. This effort brought families together not just for sport, but to support a cause that delivers toys and hope to children in need. In 2015, the entire Spaeth Family was inducted into the Sheboygan Softball Hall of Fame in recognition of their lasting contributions.

Their giving extended beyond the field. Larry’s life was celebrated with donations directed to local charitable organizations, reflecting the family’s deep commitment to supporting their community. The Spaeths’ values of faith, service, and “being a Spaeth today”—a call to live with kindness, resilience, and generosity—continue to guide their children’s lives and our work here.
